Clinical basis and sources
How this content is developed
OptoGuide™ clinical quick guides are written as structured clinical reasoning summaries. The aim is to support rapid recognition, differentiation, escalation, and referral decisions during the consultation.
The format is deliberately concise. It is designed to reflect how optometrists think in practice when deciding what matters, what to check, and when specialist input is required.
Clinical review
Public clinical guides are reviewed by Dr Ankit Mathur (PhD, Grad Cert Ocu Thera, B.S. Optom),a practising Australian optometrist. Reviews check clinical framing, referral urgency, and consistency with the frameworks below; content is corrected or withdrawn when practice standards change.
Individual clinical modules are also read by practising optometrists and ophthalmologists outside the business, who are named with what they reviewed on the clinical reviewers and contributors page.
Core clinical frameworks
- Optometry Australia guidelines
- RACGP referral standards
- Australian Medicines Handbook
- Australian medicines regulation and PBS prescribing context
- Standard ophthalmology clinical references
These organisations and publications are named as reference sources only. OptoGuide™ is independent: it is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of them.
Important note
This content is designed to support clinical decision-making, not replace clinical judgment.
