Overview
Persistent or recurrent inflammation or enlargement of the lacrimal gland. It is often less painful than acute dacryoadenitis and may reflect inflammatory, infiltrative, autoimmune, infectious, or neoplastic disease. Optometry management is recognition, orbital safety assessment, documentation, and referral for ophthalmology-led imaging and systemic work-up when indicated.
